What are the precision casting technologies available
2024-06-12 10:30:01

precision casting technology mainly includes the following types, each with its specific process and application scenarios:

Investment casting (wax loss casting):

Investment casting, also known as wax loss casting, is one of the most commonly used techniques in precision casting.

It manufactures investment molds by selecting suitable investment materials (such as paraffin), and repeatedly applies refractory coatings and sprinkles refractory sand on the investment molds, hardening the shell and drying.

Next, dissolve the internal mold to obtain the cavity, bake the shell to obtain sufficient strength, and burn off any remaining mold material.

Then pour the required metal materials, solidify and cool them, and remove the shell and sand to obtain high-precision finished products.

Investment casting can produce castings with complex shapes and high precision, such as engine blades, turbine discs, etc. in the aviation and aerospace fields.

Ceramic mold casting:

A casting method for producing castings using ceramic slurry to make molds.

Ceramic slurry is made from ethyl silicate hydrolysis solution and materials with relatively pure texture and good thermal stability.

This technology is typically used to produce castings with specific performance and shape requirements.

Metal mold casting:

The method of casting using metal molds.

This method can achieve high dimensional accuracy and surface smoothness.

Suitable for producing large quantities of castings, such as automotive parts.

Pressure casting:

Inject molten metal into the mold under high pressure to obtain high-precision and high-quality castings.

Pressure casting is commonly used to produce castings that require high strength and wear resistance, such as pumps and valves.

Lost foam casting:

The soluble foam model is used to replace the traditional sand mold or metal mold.

The foam model is dissolved by molten metal in the pouring process, so that the casting with the same shape as the model can be obtained.

Lost foam casting is particularly suitable for producing castings with complex shapes.

In summary, Precision casting technology includes various types such as investment casting (wax loss casting), ceramic casting, metal casting, pressure casting, and lost foam casting. These technologies each have their own characteristics and are suitable for different production scenarios and needs. Among them, investment casting has been widely used in aviation, aerospace, energy and other fields due to its high precision and complex shape production capacity.
